Don't Always Read Between the Lines - humor can go a long way

Have you ever been misunderstood or have you misunderstood someone else? It happens. And with the use of the internet, it's that much easier to be misunderstood. Internet readers are often skimming the internet and often use those habits as they read their e-mails which can often cause mixed feelings and misunderstandings. However, two words that should be carefully considered when communicating online are "lol" and "good luck". In a good relationship, those words won't be much of a problem; but if you
don't have any connection or very little connection with the reader, "lol and good luck" can be taken as a condescending or loving remarks even if it wasn't meant to be. On the other hand, as a reader, one needs to keep things in perpective and not be overly sensitive - which could cause you to read between the lines when it's not necessary.

Just as we are developing habits of skimming the internet, our writing is also developing into something that is shorter and more to the point which can often leave out needed detail.  Often, an email or a text message will be short and be misunderstood. The correct way of handling any misunderstandings is to respond back with a "sorry don't undertand" message or a "do you mean..." response. Most of the time people are in a hurry and we all need to comprehend that most people are good and best of intensions are very difficult to see when displayed upon the internet.

Another helpful advise - humor. It can go a long way. With everyone communicating on the internet, we often misspell words or the smart phone wants to be smart and add in a few words that were not intended. It can be frustrating and embarrassing to the writer, but as a reader, I enjoy seeing a few mistakes here and there. It makes the writer human and I'm relieved to know other people make mistakes too. Furthermore, it's sometimes fun just to get in a laugh or two. On that note, "good luck" in your writing adventures and have fun reading - lol.
