When to Build a New Website & Risk Losing SEO

I had a very interesting lady (from New Orleans) contact me today asking if she should move her old domain name to a new website she had built or if she should use a sub-domain name for her new website. After looking at both sites and knowing she is a busy mom with a successful business, I instantly felt her need to  make the jump and attach her old domain name to her new website. The important thing for her to remember is to use 301 redirects for "all pages". Furthermore, register your site at Google Webmaster Tools. It's an essential tool to have for anyone looking to fix broken links and performing 301 redirects.

Now, let me explain why it is necessary for her to adopt this new website:

"Social Media" + "Linking Power" =  ^SEO

Her new site now has a Facebook and Twitter Button. But the golden nugget is the Link to a Blog. She will now be able to create more active links to her website and to Facebook and Twitter and visa versa. So instead of trying to maintain an old website that is very static, she can now use that time to blog and add linking juice to her new website.

Check out the images of the old site vs the new site. You will see the old site doesn't have any social media buttons and it has much smaller images. In the world today, people want to talk and connect. But they need to "see" large and clear images so they can connect with the website. People scan websites. They are looking for images and/or videos. Furthermore, if they love something and if they are making an investment in a product, you can make a sure bet they are going to share it to the world - and that world is the Social Media. The new website isn't up yet, but I'm looking forward to seeing it active. However, I'm really looking forward to seeing the blog activated and filled with "photos" and past events.

A Personal Trainer's Website

Yesterday, after work, I met with a personal trainer. But this time I was the teacher....I helped him with his current website. We just did some deeper SEO and moved a few things around - saved him from spending big bucks on a new site. Sometimes, we just need to tweak what we have instead of rebuilding....especially in web design. He had some really good reviews and links he wouldn't want to lose and besides with anything, something new requires time to relearn the new ins and outs. Instead, why not use that time to write new content to help increase traffic to your website.

This is a great guy! My bother-in-law takes his boot camp class and had some awesome results. He also instructs many big named artists like Miranda Lambert. It was an honor to work with him. His website is http://www.crutchcamp.com/news and his twitter handle is https://twitter.com/crutchcamp. He does a good job at tweeting...so if that's your communication, follow him and get some good tips.

Frustrated with Different Users on One Computer?

As a mac lover and a mother of 3 growing children, I went for quality and not quantity when it came to a computer(s) for the family. I knew they would have to share the 27" screen mac, but I wasn't sure how we were going to maintain our different needs when it came to the internet. Not wanting to log out of Facebook or gmail, left the new user the work to log out and log back in. Not a big chore, but it's another step I would like to eliminate. Well, thanks again to Chrome for making our lives easier. Chrome allows you the ability to log in as a "New User". I absolutely love it. I tried using Google's different user account system, but wasn't liking it for what I needed if for and it wasn't clear enough to what account you were using - could be embarrassing.  So, if you are ready to double or triple your users on the same computer - check these instructions out:  http://support.google.com/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1721977

Or if you want to try something else, here is a website that gives you 4 different options to sign in as different users: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-ways-simultaneously-manage-multiple-gmail-accounts/

Happy surfing....
